Staying at an all-inclusive felt completely different from staying at a standard hotel. From having meals, drinks, entertainment, and beach access included, it added a whole new layer to the experience and made the trip feel much more relaxing.
For me, choosing where to stay in Punta Cana ended up being less about finding the “perfect” location and more about deciding what kind of vacation I wanted. I spent four nights in Punta Cana and decided to stay at an all-inclusive resort, mainly because I wanted to fully experience the kind of beach vacation the Dominican Republic is known for.
Since this was my first time staying at an all-inclusive resort, I wanted to keep things simple. My main priorities were price, easy beach access, decent reviews, and a location that was not too far from the airport. After comparing a few options, I ended up booking Impressive Punta Cana because it checked most of the boxes for me.
For my travel dates, I found it for around $190 per night for my dates (and it may differ for your dates), which included all meals, drinks, and access to the resort amenities. Another big plus was that it was only about 30 minutes from Punta Cana Airport, which made the transfer easy after landing. Punta Cana stretches across a long section of coastline, and each area offers a slightly different experience. Some areas are lively and convenient, while others feel more private, luxurious, or peaceful. The right choice really depends on whether you want easy access to restaurants and excursions, a quiet resort escape, or something more upscale.
Below are the three areas to stay in Punta Cana I’d actually recommend, plus the resorts I’d point you toward in each.
Bávaro
Best area for First-Time Visitors.
Bávaro is pretty much where everything is happening in Punta Cana. It is the main tourist area, home to one of the longest stretches of beach and a large share of the resorts, hotels, restaurants, and activities in the region.
Depending on where your resort is located, Bávaro is usually around 20 to 30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. So, if you want to land, hop into a taxi or transfer, and reach your resort without spending another hour on the road, this is one of the most convenient areas to stay.
I also liked that you do not need a rental car here. Many resorts arrange airport transfers or you can book one, excursion companies offer hotel pickup, and areas like El Cortecito and Los Corales have beach bars, restaurants, shops, and smaller hotels within walking distance.
It is probably the easiest area to get right on a first trip because there are so many accommodation options and everything feels straightforward. Bávaro is not the quietest or most secluded part of Punta Cana, but if you want convenience, beach access, and plenty of choices, it is hard to beat.

This is where I actually stayed, and it’s the one I can speak to firsthand. It’s tucked into El Cortecito, right in the Bávaro area, and about 30 minutes from the airport, so the transfer was easy after landing.
I paid around $190 a night for my dates (may change based on your dates and deal offered), which included all meals, drinks (including unlimited both alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages), and full access to the resort amenities, and honestly, for what you get, I’d call it one of the better all-inclusive deals in Punta Cana right now. The beach right out front was clean the whole time I was there with zero sargassum, which I know isn’t guaranteed every week, but it made the trip.
If you want a solid, no-fuss introduction to the all-inclusive resort thing without overspending, this is genuinely where I’d point you.

For families or travelers who want a more upscale all-inclusive experience, Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana is another resort I would consider.
It is located directly on Bávaro Beach and offers spacious rooms and suites, multiple pools, family activities, a kids’ club, a teens’ club, and a water park.
This option makes the most sense for families who want plenty of activities without needing to leave the resort. The kids’ and teens’ programs also give adults a chance to relax while younger travelers have their own entertainment.
Compared with Impressive Punta Cana, Dreams Royal Beach is likely to feel more polished and activity-focused, but it may also come at a higher price. I would compare rates carefully and check whether upgrading to the Preferred Club is worth it for your trip.

Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana is a good option for people who enjoy larger resorts with plenty happening on the property.
The resort offers direct access to Arena Gorda Beach. Because it is part of a larger RIU resort complex, the overall atmosphere may feel busier and more energetic than a smaller property. I would consider this resort for families, couples, or groups who want a traditional all-inclusive experience and do not mind staying at a large property.

Cap Cana
Best area for a Quiet and Luxurious Resort Stay
Cap Cana feels very different from Bávaro. It is quieter, more polished, and noticeably more exclusive, with luxury resorts spread around Juanillo Beach, the marina, golf courses, and a gated resort community.
While I stayed in Bávaro during my trip, Cap Cana stood out to me as one of the best areas to stay in Punta Cana for people who want a more private and upscale resort experience. It is the kind of place I would consider for a honeymoon, anniversary, or relaxing beach trip where the resort itself is a big part of the vacation.
Juanillo Beach is one of the main reasons people choose this area. The sand is pale, and the water often looks calmer, clearer, and more turquoise than it does in Bávaro, which gives Cap Cana that polished, postcard-like feel. Of course, water color and beach conditions can still change depending on the weather, wind, currents, and time of year, so I always recommend checking recent traveler photos before booking.
The trade-off is that Cap Cana is usually more expensive. There are also fewer budget hotels, apartments, and casual restaurants within walking distance, which means it may not be the best place to stay in Punta Cana if you want to explore independently or keep accommodation costs low.
Cap Cana is best suited to couples, honeymooners, luxury travelers, and anyone looking for a quieter all-inclusive experience. It can also work well for families who are willing to spend more for a high-end resort with plenty of amenities.

It is definitely on the pricier side, but worth checking out.

Best for a Quiet and Secluded Resort Escape
Uvero Alto is the area I would recommend if you want your Punta Cana trip to feel quieter, more private, and a little more removed from the busiest tourist zones.
It sits farther north than Bávaro and Cap Cana, so the transfer from Punta Cana International Airport is usually longer. That extra distance is the trade-off, but it also means the area feels less crowded and more resort-focused once you arrive.
Unlike Bávaro, Uvero Alto does not have the same concentration of walkable restaurants, beach bars, shops, and apartments. Most travelers come here specifically to stay at an all-inclusive resort and spend the majority of their vacation on the property.
The beach experience here can also feel different. The coastline is more open, and the water is often wavier than it is around Cap Cana. Some people love that more natural, less polished feel, while others may prefer the calmer turquoise water around Juanillo Beach.
Uvero Alto is best suited to couples, honeymooners, adults looking for a peaceful escape, and travelers who want a large all-inclusive resort with plenty to do on-site. It can also work well for families, but I would pay close attention to the resort’s kids’ facilities and entertainment before booking.
The biggest downside is convenience. If you want to explore local restaurants, walk around outside your hotel, or take several day trips, Uvero Alto may not be the best area of Punta Cana to stay. The longer transfer times can make excursions feel more tiring, and you may rely more heavily on resort transportation or organized tours.
I would choose Uvero Alto over Bávaro if peace, privacy, and a secluded resort experience mattered more to me than nightlife or nearby amenities. Compared with Cap Cana, it can feel less polished and exclusive, but it often offers more variety in all-inclusive resort styles and price points.

Book Marriott All-Inclusive Resorts With Bonvoy Points
Marriott Bonvoy also has a real presence in Punta Cana. Royalton Punta Cana (Autograph Collection) and Royalton CHIC in Uvero Alto are both bookable with points, and there are higher-end options too, W Punta Cana in Uvero Alto and St. Regis Cap Cana among them, though those run considerably more points per night given the luxury pricing.
I would always compare the points price against the cash rate. A resort costing a large number of points during a cheaper travel week may not be the best redemption.
Check Hilton Honors Options
Hilton has fewer options directly within the three Punta Cana areas covered in this guide, but it is still worth checking if you already have a large Hilton Honors balance.
