Impressive Punta Cana Honest Review: Is It Worth It?

When I started planning my first all-inclusive vacation in Punta Cana, choosing a resort was honestly one of the hardest parts. There are so many options, and most of them look almost identical when you are comparing photos, amenities, and reviews online.

After researching several resorts, I booked four nights at Impressive Punta Cana because it offered the combination I was looking for: a beachfront location, reasonable rates, positive reviews, and easy access from Punta Cana International Airport. I stayed in a tropical-view room that cost around $190 per night during my trip.

In this honest Impressive Punta Cana review, I’m sharing my firsthand experience with the rooms, beach, pools, food, drinks, entertainment, and service. And, answer the biggest question: Is Impressive Punta Cana actually worth it?

My Experience Staying at Impressive Punta Cana

I wanted to start this review with my own experience because I always find first-hand details the most helpful when I’m deciding where to stay. Resort photos can look beautiful online, but what really matters is how the experience actually feels once you arrive.

When I was planning my Punta Cana trip, my main priority was finding an all-inclusive resort that was beachfront, reasonably priced, and not too far from the airport. Since this was my first all-inclusive vacation, I also wanted somewhere that would give me the full experience without being too expensive.

After comparing a few different properties, I ended up booking four nights at Impressive Punta Cana. We stayed in a tropical-view room, which cost around $190 per night during our visit (may vary for your dates), and the drive from Punta Cana International Airport took us about 30 minutes with our pre-booked private transfer (not booked with resort) which cost $80 for two people round trip.

My first impression of the resort was honestly how green and tropical everything felt. There were palm trees and lush greenery everywhere, and then right in the lobby, there was this statement car that you absolutely could not miss. And, the beach was only about a two-minute walk away from my room!

The room itself was comfortable and worked well for our four-night stay. It was not an ultra-luxury experience, but that was not really what I had booked it for. 

Honestly, being able to leave the room and be on the sand almost immediately was exactly what I wanted from my trip. The buffet food was fairly basic, and some of the better dining options required reservations.

We also used Impressive Punta Cana as our base for day trips to Saona Island and Santo Domingo. Overall Impressive Punta Cana Review

Location and Arrival Experience

Impressive Punta Cana is located in the Bávaro area, about 30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport. We booked our airport transfer separately, as it was not included in the resort rate.

Check-in was fairly straightforward, and after that, we made our way to the room. I arrived around 6.00pm and I have read that during peak check in hours it can take longer. The resort is quite large, so it took us a little time to understand where everything was, but by the next day, getting around felt much easier.

Rooms at Impressive Punta Cana

Impressive Punta Cana has more than 650 rooms, with options including tropical-view, pool-view, and ocean-view rooms. We booked the tropical-view category, which was one of the more affordable options and cost around $190 per night during our stay.

Our room was on the ground floor and had a private balcony overlooking the road. The view was still pleasant, but I think I would choose a room on a higher floor next time to get a better view of the surrounding greenery. If having a nice view is important to you, I would recommend considering ocean-view category.

The room was spacious enough for two people and included a large bed, television, storage space, air conditioning, a safe, and a bathroom with the basic amenities. There was also a minibar that was restocked daily with water and other non-alcoholic drinks, which was really convenient during our stay. Just keep in mind that alcoholic beverages were not included in the minibar.

It was not an especially modern or luxurious room, but it was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for four nights – good bed, coffee machine, iron + board, TV, dryer and umbrella if it rains.

Food and Drinks

Food is always one of the biggest questions when booking an all-inclusive resort, so I was really curious to see what the dining experience at Impressive Punta Cana would be like.

The resort has an international buffet, a casual snack spot, a coffee shop, and several specialty restaurants serving cuisines such as Japanese teppanyaki, Spanish tapas, Mexican, Italian, and grilled dishes. Most of the specialty restaurants require advance reservations, so I recommend arranging those early in your stay because availability can fill up.

The Open Sea International Buffet is the resort’s main buffet, with a mix of local (Dominican cuisine) and international dishes served from different food stations. They serve Breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was the easiest option and did not require a reservation.

Honestly, I found the buffet fairly basic. There were enough options to put together a meal, but the food itself was not one of the highlights of the resort for me. It worked well for quick breakfasts and lunches, but I preferred the specialty restaurants for dinner.

For casual food during the day, The Snack Time Pizza serves options such as pizza, burgers, and hot dogs. There is also an additional buffet-style breakfast and lunch option at On the Grill, which becomes a reservation-based grill restaurant in the evening.

Yakimeshi was my favorite dining experience. The chef prepared the food in front of us, which made dinner feel more fun and interactive. We also tried sushi here, and this was actually Pranjal’s first time trying it and he liked it!

And if you ever feel like staying in instead of heading to one of the restaurants, you can also order room service for an additional fee.

Alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks were included. We could easily grab a cocktail while relaxing at the beach or walking around the property. I thought the drinks were good and enjoyable, although they were fairly simple rather than fancy or craft-style cocktails. The resort has bars near the beach, main pool, and lobby, along with a sports bar.

Impressive Premium guests also get access to separate restaurants and bars. We were asked at the time of check-in if we wanted to upgrade, so you do not necessarily have to decide before your trip. If you are looking for a slightly more elevated experience, it is worth comparing both options, but for us, the standard stay already had everything we needed.

I also really liked having Palm Coffee Shop at the resort. It serves freshly made coffee, pastries, and sweet treats, and it opens early, around 6:00 a.m. That was especially convenient on excursion days when we had an early pickup and wanted to grab something before leaving the resort.

Beach and pools

The Impressive Punta Cana beach was easily one of my favorite parts of staying here. The resort sits directly along El Cortecito Beach, which is a public beach, and from our room, it was only about a two-minute walk to the sand. Even though the beach is public, the resort has a designated area with loungers for guests.

During our stay, the beach was clean, the water looked beautiful, and there were plenty of loungers available. Though I would suggest to come early to grab a lounger view you want (haha). It was easy to spend most of the day relaxing by the water with a drink from the nearby bar. The resort staff also regularly cleaned the shoreline, which helped keep the main guest area comfortable.

Impressive Punta Cana also has four swimming pools, so there are several options when you want a break from the beach and enjoy the pool with your family. They also offer beach and pool towel.

Personally, I spent more time at the beach than at the pools because that was one of the main reasons I chose this resort. I loved how easy it was to go back and forth between the room, beach, pool, and bar without having to walk too far.

One thing to keep in mind is that some beach and pool areas are reserved for Impressive Premium guests, so guests staying in the standard section may not have access to every part of the resort complex.

Since El Cortecito Beach is public, local vendors may also approach you while you are relaxing or walking along the sand. They were not a major issue during our stay, but it is worth knowing if you prefer a completely private and uninterrupted beach experience.

Beach Conditions and Sargassum

During my stay, the beach was clean, and I did not notice significant sargassum.The resort staff regularly cleared the shoreline to keep the main guest area comfortable. Sargassum and overall beach conditions can change daily depending on the season, weather, and ocean currents, so your experience may be different.

Amenities and Activities

We did not use every amenity during our four-night stay, mainly because we spent most of our free time at the beach or exploring Punta Cana. However, I liked that there were enough activities available if you wanted a break from simply relaxing by the water.

The resort has a gym with cardio and strength-training equipment, which is included for guests.

There is also an on-site spa offering massages, body treatments, and hydrotherapy, although spa services come at an additional cost.

You can also find beach volleyball, ping-pong, pool tables, foosball, video games, and other organized games around the property. For families, the kids’ and teens’ clubs offer games, sports, themed activities, and entertainment.

There is also an on-site disco for guests who want to continue the night after the live shows and evening activities.

The resort also offers daily activities, water sports, and evening entertainment. I would recommend checking the daily activity schedule after arrival because times and activity may change

During our stay, there was a white party on the beach one evening (totally loved it), morning yoga by the water (unfortunately, miss it!), and a live dance performance another night (enjoyed it).

Service

The staff and service were honestly amazing throughout our stay. From the moment we checked in, the staff made everything feel really easy, and our luggage was delivered directly to the room. Anytime we needed something like extra towels, water, or help with something in the room, we could simply call and someone would assist us.

We even had a small situation where a lizard accidentally came into the room through the balcony. We called the front desk, and a staff member came right away and helped us get it out.

One thing to keep in mind is that many staff members are more comfortable speaking Spanish, and not everyone speaks English fluently. We were still able to communicate and get the help we needed, but knowing a few basic Spanish phrases or using a translation app could make things easier.

What I Liked and Didn’t Like at Impressive Punta Cana

The beach was definitely my favorite part of the entire resort. It was clean during our stay, the water looked beautiful, and it was only about a two-minute walk from our room.

Since the beach is public, vendors may also approach you while you are relaxing or walking along the sand. It was not a huge problem for us, but it is something I would want to know before booking.

The drinks were simple, but good, and I liked having bars close to the beach and pool. The evening entertainment was also fun and gave us something to do after dinner without having to leave the resort.

The coffee shop was another small thing I ended up appreciating more than I expected. Being able to grab a latte whenever I wanted, so convenient!

The buffet food was probably just okay for me – not bad, but not one of the highlights of the stay either. There were enough options to put together a meal, but most of the food felt fairly basic, and the selection was quite similar from day to day.

If you are expecting a wide variety of different cuisines at the buffet, this may not be the best fit. They do rotate some dishes, and you may occasionally see food inspired by the specialty restaurants. I definitely preferred the specialty restaurants for dinner. So make sure you reserve your table as soon as you check – in.

There is also an on-site spa offering massages and other treatments. I actually thought about booking a massage during our stay, but the prices felt a little too expensive for me, so I ended up skipping it.

Honestly, I have mostly good things to say about our stay. I went in with realistic expectations and was not expecting a luxury experience, but I still had a really great time.

This was also my first all-inclusive stay, so I do not have another resort to compare it with. All I can say is that I genuinely enjoyed the experience from start to finish, and Impressive Punta Cana ended up exceeding my expectations.

Other Hotels to Consider

Before booking Impressive Punta Cana, I also looked at Dreams Royal Beach Punta Cana. It looked absolutely beautiful and a little more polished overall, but it was also more expensive for my dates. Since this was my first all-inclusive stay, Impressive Punta Cana simply felt like the better value.

Another option worth comparing is Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana. It is a beachfront, family-friendly resort on Arena Gorda Beach with 24-hour all-inclusive service, so it could be a good choice if you want a livelier resort experience with plenty happening throughout the day.

Where is Impressive Punta Cana located?

It’s on El Cortecito Beach in Bávaro, about 20-30 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ).

How Many Nights Should You Stay?

We stayed at Impressive Punta Cana for five days and honestly, I think that was a really good amount of time for our first all-inclusive trip.

The only thing is that we also planned day trips to Saona Island and Santo Domingo, so we were not actually at the resort every single day. Looking back, I probably would have added one more night just so we had a little more time to slow down and enjoy everything we were already paying for.

If you are planning to stay mostly at the resort, three nights can work really well. But if you also want to explore beyond the resort, I would recommend at least five nights.

What is the difference between Impressive Punta Cana and Impressive Premium?

Impressive Punta Cana is the standard section of the resort, while Impressive Premium includes upgraded rooms and access to some exclusive beach, pool, dining, and service areas. Standard guests do not have access to every Premium section, so I would compare both options before booking if those extras are important to you. Personally, I did not think it was worth upgrading.

Is the beach directly in front of the resort?

Yes, Impressive Punta Cana is a beachfront resort with a Blue Flag–certified beach. El Cortecito Beach is public, but the resort has a designated area with loungers for guests. You can walk along the shoreline in both directions, although local vendors may occasionally approach you because it is a public beach.

How many pools does the resort have?

The resort has four swimming pools across the property.

Is the mini-bar restocked daily?

Yes, our minibar was restocked every day with water and other non-alcoholic drinks. Just keep in mind that our minibar did not include alcoholic drinks.

Do I need cash at an all-inclusive resort like this?

You can enjoy most of the resort without carrying cash because your meals, drinks, and included activities are already covered. However, I would recommend bring some cash (Dominican Peso) for buying anything from local vendors .

Personally, I carried US dollar and credit card with no foreign transaction fee as everything was already paid online for my resort stay, transportation as well as day excursion.

Is there a dress code for the à la carte restaurants?

I would avoid wearing swimwear or arriving directly from the beach. For dinner, we wore casual vacation clothes and did not have any issues.

How far is it from the airport, and is transfer included?

The resort is officially listed as around 20 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, but our journey took about 30 minutes.

Airport transportation was not included with our resort reservation, so we booked a round-trip transfer separately in advance. This may depend on the package or provider you book through, so definitely check the inclusions before assuming your transfer is covered.

Is Impressive Punta Cana good for families?

Yes, the resort is family-friendly and has pools, activities, entertainment, and clubs for children and teenagers. We traveled as a couple, so I cannot speak from personal experience about the kids’ facilities, but there seemed to be plenty available for families.

Is Impressive Punta Cana good for couples?

Yes, I think Impressive Punta Cana can be a good option for couples who want a relaxed and reasonably priced all-inclusive beach vacation.

Final Verdict: Is Impressive Punta Cana worth it?

Honestly, yes! I think Impressive Punta Cana was worth it for what we paid, and I would stay there again if I found a similar rate. It was not a luxury resort, and the buffet food was fairly basic, but that was never really what I was looking for.

What mattered most to me was having a clean room, a beautiful beach, good service, included drinks, and enough restaurants and activities to make the stay feel easy. The resort gave me exactly that, and in a few ways, it actually exceeded my expectations.
