Staying in a cozy little cabin surrounded by the beautiful fall colors of the Catskills had been on our bucket list for quite some time. If you’ve come across those dreamy tiny cabins with huge windows overlooking the forest, you’ll probably understand why I wanted to stay here so badly! There’s just something about waking up surrounded by trees, enjoying a slow morning with coffee, and spending the evening roasting marshmallows by the fire that sounds like the perfect getaway.

Where Is Postcard Cabins Western Catskills?
Postcard Cabins Western Catskills is located in Roscoe, a small town in Upstate New York, about a 3.5-hour drive from New York City. Tucked away in the Catskill Mountains, it’s a lovely little escape for anyone looking to trade the busy city for some peace and quiet surrounded by nature.
The property has 36 tiny cabins spread throughout the forest, giving you that feeling of being away from it all without having to give up the comforts of a proper cabin stay.
Also, something worth knowing before you book: Postcard Cabins has two locations in the Catskills, Eastern Catskills and Western Catskills. We stayed at the Western Catskills location in Roscoe, so make sure you’re choosing the right one when making your reservation!
One thing I would definitely recommend is having a car, especially if you want to explore more of the Catskills during your trip. We combined our cabin stay with a few other stops, including Hunter Mountain and Kaaterskill Falls, so having our own car made things much easier.
My Tip: Try to arrive before sunset if possible! The cabins are located along quiet country roads, and getting there during daylight makes it easier to find your way and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I’d also suggest picking up snacks or groceries before checking in. There’s no on-site restaurant, so it’s worth planning ahead.

My Cabin Experience
I’m not going to lie, staying at Postcard Cabins was one of the things I was most excited about during our Catskills road trip! I’d seen these adorable little cabins surrounded by trees so many times, and we’d been wanting to experience one for ourselves for quite a while.
And honestly, what better time to visit than during fall foliage season?
We planned our first day around the cabin stay because we really wanted to make the most of it. After taking a scenic train ride through the Catskills, we headed straight to Postcard Cabins Western Catskills. Check-in starts at 4 PM, and we made sure to arrive right around that time. Since we were only staying for one night, I didn’t want to waste any time getting there!
The first thing I loved was how peaceful the whole place felt. The cabins are tucked away in the woods, surrounded by trees, and visiting in the fall made everything look even prettier. It almost felt like we had our own little hideaway in the middle of the forest.
And then there was the cabin itself!
It was small, of course, but incredibly cozy. The huge window overlooking the forest was easily my favorite part. There’s something so special about lying in bed and looking out at nothing but trees, especially when they’re covered in beautiful shades of orange and yellow.
We didn’t have anything else planned for the evening, which was exactly how I wanted it. We picked up some pizza on our way to the cabin, so we didn’t have to worry about heading out for dinner or spending time cooking.
Instead, we spent the evening outside by the firepit, enjoying some wine, roasting marshmallows, and just relaxing. And honestly, I think that was my favorite part of the entire stay. No rushing from one place to another, no packed itinerary, just a cozy evening surrounded by nature.
One little thing I’d recommend: If you’re planning to enjoy wine during your stay, consider bringing your own wine glasses. Our cabin had basic camping-style cups and cookware, but no wine glasses. Not a big deal, of course, but definitely something worth knowing before you pack!
The next morning was just as lovely. We made ourselves coffee and sat by the fire for a while, enjoying the peaceful surroundings before it was time to pack up and continue our Catskills road trip.
And this is where I realized that one night really wasn’t enough!
Don’t get me wrong, we absolutely loved our stay, but I would have happily spent another morning here doing absolutely nothing. If you’re planning a trip specifically to relax and enjoy the cabin, I’d recommend booking at least two nights if you can.
Inside the Cabin
Now, if you’re wondering what it’s actually like inside one of these tiny cabins, I can tell you that they’re small, but in the best possible way!
I wasn’t expecting anything super luxurious, but I did want somewhere cozy and comfortable where we could enjoy being surrounded by nature. And honestly, that’s exactly what Postcard Cabins is all about.
The cabins are definitely on the smaller side, but I was surprised by how well the space was designed. It’s not a luxury hotel experience, and that’s kind of the point. You get the feeling of being out in nature without having to give up the basic comforts you’d normally want during a getaway.
Let me walk you through what’s actually included, because there are a few things worth knowing before you pack!
The Sleeping Area
The bed takes up a good portion of the cabin, but there’s still enough space for the essentials. Everything has a simple, minimalist feel, and I actually liked that there wasn’t too much going on inside.
Depending on which cabin you book, you’ll either have a queen bed or queen bunk beds, making it an option for couples or small groups of up to four people.
The sleeping area is pretty simple, with fresh linens, pillows, and just enough space for your belongings. There’s also heating and air conditioning, which is a huge plus considering how unpredictable the weather can be in Upstate New York.
One thing I’d keep in mind is that storage space is limited. These are tiny cabins, after all! If you’re visiting for just a night or two, I’d recommend packing a small overnight bag instead of bringing a huge suitcase.
The cabins also come with heating and air conditioning, so you don’t have to worry too much about the temperature inside. We visited during the chilly fall season, and having a warm, comfortable cabin to return to was definitely a plus.

The Kitchen & Cooking Essentials
One thing I really appreciated was having a little kitchenette inside the cabin. It comes with a two-burner stovetop, mini fridge, sink, and basic cookware, so you can easily prepare simple meals during your stay.
Now, don’t expect a fully equipped kitchen like you’d find in an Airbnb! The cooking setup is pretty basic, but I think it’s more than enough for a short cabin getaway.
One thing I really appreciated was that the cabin also came stocked with complimentary coffee, creamer, tea, and hot chocolate. I thought this was such a lovely touch, especially for a cozy cabin getaway in the Catskills!
We didn’t have to worry about packing our own morning coffee, and honestly, enjoying a warm cup while surrounded by nature was one of my favorite little moments of our stay.
My tip: If you’re planning to cook, bring your groceries with you and keep the meals simple. Also, the cabin had camping-style cups rather than wine glasses during our stay, so that’s one little thing I’d add to your packing list if you prefer proper glasses.

The Bathroom
Yes, you get your own private bathroom, and honestly, I think that’s what makes these cabins such a nice alternative to traditional camping!
Inside, you’ll find a toilet, hot shower, fresh towels, and basic toiletries. You don’t need to worry about walking to a shared bathroom in the middle of the night or packing all your bathroom essentials.
The bathroom is compact, just like the rest of the cabin, but it has what you need for a short stay.
The Outdoor Space
Okay, technically this isn’t inside the cabin, but I have to mention it because it’s honestly one of the best parts of staying here!
Each cabin has its own outdoor area with a firepit, Adirondack chairs, and a picnic table. There’s also a grill grate over the firepit if you want to cook outside.
And here’s the best part! We had firewood, firestarters, and even a marshmallow box included with our stay. I thought that was such a nice touch because we didn’t have to worry about bringing any of those things ourselves.
We spent most of our evening sitting by the fire, enjoying some wine, and roasting marshmallows. With the cool fall air and trees all around us, it was exactly the kind of cozy evening we had been looking forward to.
For me, the best thing about Postcard Cabins Western Catskills isn’t necessarily how much is packed into the cabin. It’s that you have everything you need without being distracted by too much else.
There’s also parking near the cabin, which is super convenient when you’re carrying luggage, groceries, and everything else you’ve packed for the trip.

Things to Know Before Booking
Before you go ahead and book your stay at Postcard Cabins Western Catskills, there are a few things I’d recommend knowing beforehand. While staying in a tiny cabin in the middle of the woods sounds pretty dreamy (and it really is!), it’s a little different from your typical hotel stay.
First of all, check-in is at 4 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM. There’s no traditional front desk, so you’ll receive instructions for accessing your cabin before arrival. I actually found this pretty convenient because we could head straight to our cabin and settle in.
Another thing I’d recommend is bringing your own food and drinks. There isn’t an on-site restaurant, and while you can cook inside the cabin, it’s worth planning your meals before arriving. If you’re only staying for a night, picking up takeout on the way is probably the easiest option.
Bring headlamp or small flashlight for walking between the cabin and the fire pit at night.
Also, don’t forget that you’re staying in the woods! Cell service can be spotty depending on your carrier, so I’d suggest downloading offline maps and saving your check-in instructions before heading out.
Our cabin actually had pretty good Wi-Fi, which was a pleasant surprise. I didn’t experience any major connectivity issues during our stay, although I can’t speak for every cabin on the property. That said, I’d still recommend downloading offline maps before heading out, just in case cell service gets spotty on the surrounding country roads.
And if you’re visiting during fall or winter, definitely bring a few extra layers because evenings can get pretty chilly.
As for how long to stay, I personally think two nights would be ideal, especially if you’re visiting primarily to relax. One night worked for our Catskills road trip, but having a full day with absolutely nothing planned would have made the experience even better.
And finally, prices can vary quite a bit depending on the season, day of the week, and cabin type. Fall weekends are particularly popular in the Catskills, so I’d recommend booking ahead if you have specific dates in mind.

Things to Do Nearby
If you’re planning to spend a little more time exploring the Catskills, there are some beautiful places worth adding to your itinerary. While I definitely recommend setting aside enough time to enjoy the cabin itself, I think combining your stay with a little sightseeing makes for an even better getaway!
During our Catskills road trip, my husband and I visited Hunter Mountain and Kaaterskill Falls, and both were absolutely worth the trip.
One of my favorite experiences was taking the scenic skyride at Hunter Mountain. We visited during fall foliage season, and seeing the mountains covered in beautiful shades of orange, yellow, and red from above was such a lovely experience.
We also made our way to Kaaterskill Falls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Catskills. We spent a good part of our day exploring the area, enjoying the scenery, and taking our time at the different viewpoints. It’s a gorgeous place to visit, especially if you enjoy waterfalls and spending time outdoors.
Now, one thing worth mentioning is that both Hunter Mountain and Kaaterskill Falls are in the Eastern Catskills, so they’re not exactly right around the corner from Postcard Cabins Western Catskills. We visited them as part of our 3 day road trip, and I’d recommend doing the same rather than trying to squeeze everything into a short cabin stay.
If you’d rather explore places closer to the cabin, you could also check out the charming towns of Roscoe and Livingston Manor, or head to Russell Brook Falls and Pepacton Reservoir for more outdoor adventures.
And you’ll definitely want a car to explore the Catskills! If you don’t have one, you can use this website to compare rental options and find the best deal for your trip.

Eastern vs. Western Catskills: Which Postcard Cabins Location Should You Choose?
One thing worth knowing before booking Postcard Cabins is that they actually have two locations in the Catskills: Eastern Catskills and Western Catskills. Both offer those adorable tiny cabins tucked away in nature, but they’re in different parts of the region, so choosing between them really comes down to your travel plans, availability, and budget.
Postcard Cabins Eastern Catskills is located near Catskill, New York, about a 2.5-hour drive from NYC. It’s a great option if you’re planning to explore some of the more popular Catskills attractions, like Hunter Mountain, Kaaterskill Falls, and the charming towns around the Hudson Valley.
Postcard Cabins Western Catskills, on the other hand, is located in Roscoe, about a 3.5-hour drive from NYC. It’s a lovely choice if you’re looking for a peaceful cabin getaway or want to explore the quieter side of the Catskills.
Now, here’s something I’d definitely recommend considering before choosing between the two: availability and price!
When my husband and I were planning our fall road trip, we actually checked both locations. Western Catskills had availability for our preferred date and was also more affordable, so that’s the one we ended up booking. And honestly, I’m so glad we did!
But you might be wondering, is the actual cabin experience different between Eastern and Western Catskills?
Well, the good news is that both locations offer a very similar experience! You’ll find those cozy tiny cabins with large windows overlooking nature, private bathrooms, kitchenettes, and outdoor firepits. So, you’re not necessarily missing out on a completely different cabin experience by choosing one over the other.
Personally, I think the biggest deciding factors should be availability, price, and what you want to explore during your trip.
If Hunter Mountain and Kaaterskill Falls are high on your itinerary, Eastern Catskills would be the more convenient option. But if Western Catskills has better availability or a lower rate for your dates, I wouldn’t rule it out!
We stayed at Western Catskills as part of our 3-day Catskills road trip, and it worked out really well for us. We enjoyed our cozy cabin getaway before continuing our trip to explore more of the region.
Of course, I’ve only stayed at Western Catskills, so I can’t personally compare both properties. But based on what’s included at each location, I think you can expect a similar cozy, nature-focused getaway.

Is Postcard Cabins Worth It?
So, after spending a night at Postcard Cabins Western Catskills, would I say it’s worth booking? For me, the answer is definitely yes!
I think what makes Postcard Cabins special is the whole experience rather than just the cabin itself. You’re not just booking a place to sleep for the night. You’re getting your own cozy little space surrounded by nature, where you can slow down, spend time outdoors, and take a break from your usual routine.
And honestly, that’s exactly what my husband and I were looking for during our Catskills road trip!
What I particularly liked was how thoughtfully everything was set up. From the comfortable cabin and kitchenette to the complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, firewood, and marshmallow kit, there were so many little touches that made our stay feel extra special. We didn’t need to plan much to have a lovely time, and sometimes that’s the best kind of getaway.
Now, is Postcard Cabins the cheapest place to stay in the Catskills? Not necessarily. You’re paying for the unique setting and the overall experience, so I think whether it’s worth the price really depends on what you’re looking for.
Personally, I’d especially recommend Postcard Cabins Western Catskills for couples looking for a romantic getaway. My husband and I loved having a cozy little space to ourselves, and it’s such a lovely setting for spending quality time together.
I also think it’s a great choice for nature lovers who enjoy being outdoors but aren’t necessarily into traditional camping. You get to enjoy the peaceful forest surroundings without giving up the comfort of a proper bed, private bathroom, and kitchenette.
And if you’re living in NYC or the surrounding areas, it’s a wonderful option for a weekend getaway from New York City, particularly during fall foliage season. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply want a change of scenery, I think it’s the kind of place where you can enjoy doing absolutely nothing for a change!
That said, Postcard Cabins might not be for everyone, and that’s worth keeping in mind before booking. If you prefer spacious accommodations, a fully equipped kitchen, or resort-style amenities, these tiny cabins might feel a little too simple. And if your main goal is to spend most of your trip sightseeing, I’d consider whether you’ll have enough time to enjoy the cabin itself.
The only thing I’d personally do differently next time? Book two nights instead of one! We absolutely loved our overnight stay, but I would have happily spent another day here relaxing without having to think about packing up the next morning.
Overall, I think Postcard Cabins Western Catskills is absolutely worth considering if you’re looking for a cozy, nature-filled getaway in Upstate New York. It’s particularly lovely for couples, weekend escapes, and anyone who wants to slow down for a little while.
If you’re planning your own cozy Catskills getaway, I’d recommend checking the latest prices and availability for both Postcard Cabins Eastern Catskills and Postcard Cabins Western Catskills to see which location works best for your travel dates and budget.
